Most other inflatables are good for Whitewater paddling OR flatwater touring - but not both.
Whitewater inflatables are "wet-only" boats. They drain excess whitewater in wet conditions but leave you wet and cold in flatwater
Flatwater inflatables - dry only boats - have no drain valves so they're useless if you get into rough water.
Ordinary Rigid Kayaks and Canoes are:
Far heavier than inflatables
Require an expensive roof rack
Can't be packed in a car trunk or checked as airline baggage.
Are you a true adventurer? If your idea of a perfect weekend means harrowing treks and trips that make others blanch, you definitely qualify.
Explorer Kayaks Can:
Rocket fearlessly down Class IV rapids
Traverse miles of wilderness rivers to spend weeks at primitive campsites
Fly fish remote trout streams other fishermen can’t get to
Carry easily on a small plane to impossibly obscure fishing or camping sites
Our top selling inflatable kayaks based on annual sales are the Sea Eagle PaddleSki 395's followed by the 380x from our Explorer kayak series. I find either of these rigid supported fabric inflatable kayaks to rival the performance and durability of hard kayaks while still providing amazing portability.
If you can only own one kayak, make it a Sea Eagle kayak!
The Sea Eagle Explorer kayaks are all true world-class kayaks. They are constructed of our best fabric, have a double floor system, and are self bailing. There just isn't any better inflatable kayak out there, just more expensive ones!
Our new, smaller size Sea Eagle340x Explorer kayak is ideal for 2 smaller paddlers and a few days of camping gear. For those of you interested in solo white water kayaking, the Sea Eagle 340x is easier to handle for one person in white water than our larger 380x, yet it can still hold two smaller people and gear comfortably. Tougher, wider and more rigid than our Sea Eagle 330, the Sea Eagle Explorer 340x is made for the most demanding wilderness situations. This model features 6 d-rings on top of the pontoons for totally secure seat attachment.
The 11’1” Sea Eagle Explorer 340x kayak is a great solo kayak that can also hold two below average sized paddlers. Unless you're absolutely committed to always going solo, spend another $50 and get the 12’6” Sea Eagle Explorer 380x kayak. You have another 17 inches of just-in-case room and the 380x has an extra 150-pound capacity. I think it’s better to have-it-and-not-need-it particularly when it doesn't’t cost you anything in handling and actually stores in the same amount of room. The Sea Eagle 380x inflatable kayak also makes a dandy solo boat.
The big 14-foot Explorer 420x is the one for you if you want a boat that can handle 2 or three and maybe 4. The bigger the boat the bigger the sacrifice in handling though and this is a long kayak to move through technical whitewater solo.
Whichever you pick, do buy the optional Directional Stabilizer. The Directional Stabilizer will eliminate about 80% of the yaw when you’re using your Explorer in flat water. Yaw is the tendency of a buoyant inflatable kayak to zigzag across flat water. Sea Eagle has just come out with a much-needed improvement to the Directional Stabilizer and all Explorers are now being shipped with the improved mounting bracket on the boat.

Deat Tim,
"I bought a Sea Eagle 380x Explorer from you 10 years ago. It has been on every river of any note in the west. I just got back from a great trip down the middle fork of the Salmon river. Lots of class 3 and 4 rapids. I have also often had my Sea Eagle on the Sea of Cortez. It is a great boat. I would suggest this boat to anyone. When I bought my IK I had seen your truck with advertising at Costco in Prescott. I am glad I did! I can't imagine a better boat for my varied needs!
Thank you Tim!"

SeaEagle 380x Explorer Inflatable Kayak
The Sea Eagle 380x allows whitewater capabilities up to class 4. The rugged 1000 denier hull material is the same as in our sport boat line and can withstand impact with rocks, boulders and other obstacles. Capable of operating at a working pressure of 3.2 PSI, this kayak is rigid enough to cut through waves and sleek enough to slide out of holes. 6 d-rings on top of the pontoons ensure totally secure seat attachment.
Double Floor System:
1) 2000 Denier outer fabric floor for true protection
2) New! Upgraded super rigid Drop Stitch air-floor increases the overall rigidity of the kayak
A very important feature is the just introduced upgraded high pressure Drop Stitch air-floor. It provides rock solid rigidity to the whole structure of the kayak making it very responsive to paddle strokes. The Drop Stitch air-floor even makes this kayak rigid enough to be used as a Standup Paddle Board.
A 37" beam makes for a stable ride and the 12' 6" length makes this kayak big enough for two people and a week's worth of gear. The four high capacity drain valves can be unscrewed to provide self bailing capability, or screwed securely on for dry lake paddling.
The Sea Eagle 380x is a true expedition quality kayak, and is large and tough enough for rugged wilderness travel.
Electric Pump, Directional Stabilizer, and other accessories are available.
On-the-fly flexibility: handles wet OR dry conditions with ease
Explorer Kayaks handle Class 4 Rapids with ease. What do you do when the placid river you’re kayaking becomes a free-for-all of rapids? If you’re in an ordinary “dry-only” kayak with no drains, you must either portage your craft or get ready to sit in several inches of cold water. Similarly, a common “wet-only” kayak’s permanently open drains let water in, even in dead-calm water.
Long open water trips are a breeze. The Sea Eagle Explorer Kayak is ready for wet OR dry conditions with four extra-large, easily convertible drains. Drains OPEN, the craft bails itself in rough whitewater conditions. Drains CLOSED, they don’t let a drop of water in so you and your cargo stay comfortably dry in calm water. And — worst case — even filled to the gunwales with water, the Explorer Kayak still floats.
Our boat arrived today, on schedule. I inflated the boat this eve and am quite impressed. The quality has NOT diminished. We were very impressed nearly 30 years ago when we took our first SeaEagle 380s down the Gila River in the Gila Wilderness AArea. They ran aground, capsized in the rapids, bent around branches, but NEVER deflated. For many years my friends and I won the "Great Rio Grand Raft Race" down the river in Albuquerque in our SeaEagle, even against standard kyaks. We did once get a 3 foot rent down the outer floor of 380 on the "jacks" (Steel "x"s poorly designed to prevent erosion). I was in the front and escaped serious damage to my sensitive anatomy , thanks to the multi-layer floor. We did not win that year, but we none the less floated in to the finish safe and sound. With the high runoff this year, the race is being reinstated and we are now ready!
I am struck with the improvements made in the last 30 years. THe materials are stronge, the welds solid, the main valves incredible, the drain ports are now substantial and are not at risk of loosing the "plug". The seats are a major improvement, including the "D" rings that hold them in place. The front and back rope handles are great.
After the race this Saturday, I will let you know how the 380 performs, but a bunch of 60 yr olds don't expect to best the young bucks.
Thanks for your (and Crystal's) promptand courteous attention to our purchase. Sorry to bother you on Memorial Day... I did not expect to get a real person on the holiday.
Yours truly, Robin Tuchler
BTW, if you would ever like to see a 29 year old SeaEgle 380 and compare it'sconstruction, you are welcome to stop by if you are ever in New Mexico on your travels.

My wife and I put in at Eleven Points River in Missouri with Sea Eagle 380x. We were with people who rented canoes. Our control of the boat was exceptional. I can't say that for the rented canoes. I love the stability of the Sea Eagle 380x. It is a great boat for any age. Thanks for a great product.

I love it! Whether I'm using it solo or as a tandem it holds its own in rivers or on quiet water. It's easy to pack and easy to inflate and there is room for all kinds of equipment for a long day out.

Material you can hit with a hammer
Would you hit an inflatable boat with a claw hammer? We hit the 1000 denier hull material in our Sea Eagle boats with a claw hammer .... with the sharp claw end.
The Sea Eagle reinforced hull material can take this incredible pounding ... so you don't need to sweat bumping into the dock now and then.
A Directional Stabilizer for our 340x, 380x and 420x.
Makes the Explorer Kayaks paddle faster and straighter.
Attaches to grommet on boat.
Adjusts up or down.

2 discount packages available but which one to order?
I know..! I know..! You've done your research and you're itchin' to order but now you're wondering which discount option package to choose. Crystal and I have a PaddleSki 435 and we choose the Deluxe Package. Here's why.......
We find that the Tall Back Seats found in the Pro Package are impossible to rig without customer installed D-Rings and even after installing additional D-Rings(it's easy) the Tall Back Seats are prone to collapsing forward or backward!. Even when rigged correctly the TBS rigging surrounds you making it difficult to enter and exit the kayak. The TBS's 1/4" too thin, too hard seat cushions are uncomortable and also positions the paddler too low in the kayak. In the case of the 435 this makes it difficult to swing your legs around to exit the kayak, and, in the case of our sit-in kayaks, namely the FastTrack and Explorer kayaks, this creates a lack of hip room for all but the skinniest paddler. The 4" thick inflateble seat on the Deluxe Kayak Seat positions you higher and positions the paddlers hips above the narrowest area between the roll of the rounded side chambers allowing for adequate hip room in all our sit-in kayaks. The Deluxe Kayak Seat's 4" thick seat bottom is also much more comfortable and keeps the paddlers above any pooling water making for a drier ride and, best of all, allows just as much back support as the Tall Back Seat. Lastly the higher seating position makes paddling easier and makes for better sight fishing...or fish peeping.
Next the Paddles. How much better is that AB4O Pro Paddle?
The AB30 Deluxe Paddle and AB40 Pro Paddle are almost exactly the same length. Laying one on top of the other the length difference is infinitesimal...less than an inch. The Quality and Effectiveness of the AB30 equals the AB40. We like the AB30 Drip Cups better. If it sounds like we are steering you to the much less expensive Deluxe Package - you're right!
But those stow bags sound nice...
We also feel that the not so dry - bow and stern stow bags - are gimmicky and we use standard after-market dry bags instead.
